WHAT WE DO

ABOUT HISTORIC ENGLAND

Historic England

We received funding from Historic England in 2022 to build on a pilot project that was delivered in 2019-20: the Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) ‘Heritage Challenge - Solve It’ social action project.

This funding was used to deliver the project: ‘Youth Potential, Building Heritage Capacity within the Youth Sector to better protect and value our heritage’. Delivered in 2022-23, it scoped the willingness and ability of others in the youth and heritage sectors to develop mutually beneficial opportunities which support Historic England’s vision and objectives.

This study brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the youth, heritage, and funding sectors, to articulate a shared commitment to partnership development and shared learning. These stakeholders were able to shape a theory of change, a set of common principles and a framework for the engagement of young people. It identified existing examples of good practice and transferable resources to support it.

Funding is now being sought to deliver the next phase of the project and take forward to recommendations within it.
